President (full-time position)

Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation

The Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation (the Corporation) is a parent Crown Corporation that is the buyer, processor, and marketer of freshwater fish from Manitoba, Alberta, and the Northwest Territories.

The President is the Chief Executive Officer and is accountable to the Board of Directors. He/she provides leadership and direction in all aspects of the Corporation’s activities, business performance, and strategic development. This position represents the highest management authority within the Corporation and, as a result, the President has the final responsibility for all of the management decisions and overall position, survival, and growth of the Corporation.

Salary Range: $149,500 - $175,800

Position Location: Winnipeg, Manitoba

Education and Experience

  • A degree from a recognized university in a relevant field of study or an acceptable combination of education, job-related training and/or experience;
  • Significant management experience at the senior executive level, including managing human and financial resources;
  • Experience in managing the needs and sensitivities of diverse stakeholder groups in a multi-stakeholder environment;
  • Experience in strategic management, organizational change and implementing modern corporate governance principles and best practices;
  • Experience in growing an export-orientated, customer-focused organization in the global food industry, ideally in the fisheries sector, would be considered an asset; and
  • Experience working with a board of directors and senior government officials would be considered an asset.

If you are selected for an interview, the following criteria will be assessed:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation’s mandate, business activities and public policy issues, as well as its governing legislation, including the Freshwater Fish Marketing Act and the Financial Administration Act;
  • Knowledge of contract negotiation, distribution logistics, business finance and international trade issues;
  • Knowledge of the federal government, including those issues related to sound governance and management principles, accountability and transparency;
  • Knowledge of the key players, organizations, and issues facing the freshwater fish market both nationally and internationally;
  • Knowledge of the principles of marketing and product branding;
  • Ability to provide the leadership, corporate vision and strategic direction required to fulfill the Corporation’s mandate and attain its objectives;
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a board of directors, as well as with government and industry partners and stakeholders;
  • Ability to facilitate consensus and to manage conflicts, should they arise;
  • Ability to apply strategic thinking skills when leading corporate planning, marketing and policy-making activities; and
  • Superior communication skills, both written and oral.

Language Requirements

Proficiency in both official languages would be preferred.

Eligibility Factors and Conditions of Employment

In your application, it will be important that you confirm you meet the following requirements:

  • A person who has reached the age of seventy years is not eligible to be appointed President of the Corporation and the President of the Corporation ceases to hold office on reaching the age of seventy years. (statutory)
  • You must reside in or be willing to relocate to Winnipeg, Manitoba, or to a location within reasonable commuting distance.
