Appointment Opportunities
We know that our country is stronger — and our government more effective — when decision-makers reflect Canada’s diversity. Moving forward, the Government of Canada will use an appointment process that is transparent and merit-based, strives for gender parity, and ensures that Indigenous Canadians and minority groups are properly represented in positions of leadership. We will continue to search for Canadians who reflect the values that we all embrace: inclusion, honesty, fiscal prudence, and generosity of spirit. Together, we will build a government as diverse as Canada.
The overarching goal of the Minister of Canadian Heritage is to implement the government’s plan to strengthen our cultural and creative industries.
The Government of Canada is currently seeking applications from diverse and talented Canadians from across the country, who are interested in the following positions:
Members (part-time positions)
National Film Board of Canada
The National Film Board of Canada is recognized as one of the world’s great creative laboratories. As Canada’s public producer and distributor, it produces and distributes distinctive, relevant and innovative audiovisual productions that add to our understanding of the issues facing Canadians and raise awareness of Canadian values and viewpoints across the country and around the world. Over the decades, it has become the standard for audiovisual innovation in Canada and plays an important role by highlighting the changes and key events in Canadian society.
The National Film Board of Canada carries out its responsibilities by constantly investing in new creative fields in documentary, auteur animation and interactive media. It seizes the artistic and technological opportunities that arise in the media landscape and collaborates with emerging and established filmmakers, creators and co-producers in every region of Canada, with Aboriginal and culturally diverse communities as well as partners around the world. Creativity and social relevance are the core features of its productions. Its audiovisual works offer special insight into the diversity and vitality of our culture and are an essential part of our national heritage. Its international successes have garnered Canadian filmmaking unrivalled attention, affirming the excellence of the National Film Board’s offerings.
The National Film Board of Canada’s Board of Trustees is currently composed of eight members: the Government Film Commissioner, who acts as the Board’s chairperson, the Executive Director of Telefilm Canada, and six other members appointed by the Governor in Council. With the exception of the Commissioner and the Executive Director of Telefilm Canada, Board members serve three-year terms. The Board’s primary role is to define the National Film Board of Canada’s broad directions and approve its budgets and strategic plans.
