Canada Science and Technology Museum (National Museum of Science and Technology)
Science and technology have changed Canada and the lives of Canadians. From the period of early exploration and settlement to the present, Canada has been transformed by many achievements in science and technology. The Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation is responsible for preserving and protecting the heritage of those achievements, and for sharing it with Canadians and the world. The Corporation is a national institution, made up of three museums. The Canada Science and Technology Museum lets visitors experience science and technology first-hand, as they discover artifact-rich exhibitions featuring marine and land transportation, communications, Space, and computer technology. The renewed, modern museum is set to open in November 2017. The Canada Aviation and Space Museum engages visitors with the wonder of flight. The Canada Agriculture and Food Museum lets visitors learn about Canada's unique agricultural heritage by exploring the typical sights and sounds of farm life. Through their research, exhibitions and their website, the museums tell the stories of Canadian ingenuity and achievement in science and technology. The Corporation is accountable to Parliament through the Minister of Canadian Heritage.
The Director is the Chief Executive Officer and is responsible, under the direction of the Board of Trustees, for providing corporate leadership for the management of the Museum’s resources and assets and for the effectiveness and efficiency of its operations in meeting its mandated objectives.

Salary Range: $179,200 - $210,800 (CEO-3)

Education and Experience
- A degree from a recognized university in a relevant field of study or an acceptable combination of relevant education, job-related training and/or experience;
- Corporate leadership experience at the Chief Executive Officer or senior executive level;
- Experience in financial management and revenue generation;
- Experience in major fundraising initiatives and establishing collaborative relationships;
- Experience in establishing and implementing strategic vision and change management at senior levels;
- Leadership experience in national outreach initiatives;
- Experience in reporting to, serving and engaging a board;
- Experience in dealing with government, preferably with senior government officials would be considered an asset; and
- Experience in implementing digital/virtual access to heritage programs and artifacts would be considered an asset.
If you are selected for an interview, the following criteria will be assessed:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the National Museum of Science and Technology mandate, of the Museums Act and other relevant federal legislation;
- Knowledge of current challenges and opportunities for Canadian cultural institutions;
- Knowledge of the government’s policy agenda and how it relates to the national museums;
- Financial literacy and knowledge of sound governance and management of principles and practices;
- Knowledge of the cultural, patrimonial and/or recreational tourism sectors would be considered an asset;
- Knowledge of the transformation to digital culture would be considered an asset;
- Knowledge in the Canadian science and technology, aviation and space, and/or agriculture and food sectors would be considered an asset;
- Ability to provide corporate vision, leadership and strategic direction needed to ensure the National Museum of Science and Technology is able to carry out its mandate and achieve its objectives;
- Ability to identify, analyze and define priorities and strategies;
- Ability to spearhead national outreach initiatives and actively market and promote the Museum’s brand to audiences across Canada;
- Ability to focus the energies and talents of the employees of the National Museum of Science and Technology and motivate them to achieve corporate objectives;
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with the Board of Trustees, the Museum’s management, the Minister of Canadian Heritage and her Office, the Deputy Minister of Canadian Heritage, and the Museum’s key stakeholders and partners; and
- Superior communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to manage communications with a variety of stakeholders.
Language Requirements
Proficiency in both official languages would be preferred.

- You reside in or are willing to relocate to the National Capital Region or to a location within reasonable commuting distance.
