The overarching goal of the Minister of International Trade is to increase Canada’s trade and attract job-creating investment to Canada, focusing on expanding trade with large fast-growing markets, including China and India, and deepening our trade links with traditional partners.

Invest in Canada Hub
In order to enhance Canada’s capacity to compete on the international stage and to increase its share of foreign direct investment, the Government of Canada is establishing the Invest in Canada Hub (Hub) designed to strategically attract significant international companies that will contribute to existing and new Canadian clusters of innovation and excellence across a broad range of economic sectors. The Hub will develop a cohesive foreign direct investment strategy to align with the country’s overall economic growth strategy, promote Canada as a premier investment destination and establish a single-window investor support framework and deliver world-class investment aftercare, retention and reinvestment services. The Hub will provide a seamless concierge service between all levels of government to make Canada a top of mind destination for potential global investors, which will create good paying jobs and grow the middle class. Increased foreign investment into Canada connects Canadian industries to global value chains. It facilitates the transfer of knowledge and technology, increases our competitiveness, stimulates innovation, and promotes the prosperity of Canadians.
The Chief Executive Officer as the head of the Hub, is accountable for providing strategic leadership in defining, articulating and advancing Invest in Canada’s corporate mandate to attract, promote and secure foreign direct investments as a means of stimulating economic growth, innovation and productivity in Canada, including the coordination of investment assets across Federal Departments. The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the creation of a national, integrated approach to foreign direct investment that optimizes the full spectrum of Federal/Provincial/ Municipal/Not-for-Profit/ and Private Sector partners, developing and delivering a foreign direct investment brand for broader use to promote Canada, and to work in complementarity to present one window into Canada.
The Chief Executive Officer builds and delivers a cohesive and compelling voice for foreign direct investment in Canada, skillfully leveraging a diversity of key relationships and partnerships, including those with significant and high profile prospective investors. The Chief Executive Officer is called upon to address complex and sensitive business issues in facilitating investment decisions and activities by foreign investors to contribute to Canada’s economic growth and prosperity and will be an advisor to both the Minister of International Trade and the Prime Minister.

Education and Experience
- A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization in commerce, economics, public or business administration or in any other field relevant to the work to be performed;
- Significant experience in leadership positions in organizations engaged in international business/investments;
- Experience in the field of foreign direct investment and/or international trade;
- Extensive experience in negotiating with senior decision makers in government, partners, stakeholders and private sector executives in the domain of international business/investments;
- Extensive experience, with significant executive leadership accomplishments in branding and marketing commercial enterprises within an international business context;
- Experience in implementing modern corporate governance principles and best practices, including knowledge of the appropriate interaction of a Board with management; and
- Corporate leadership experience at the senior executive level, including managing human and financial resources, or experience as a chief executive officer.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of international business and investment opportunities in Canada;
- Comprehensive knowledge of the key processes and regulatory requirements associated with securing foreign direct investment in Canada;
- Strong business acumen and knowledge of the decision-making mechanisms at all levels of government in Canada;
- Sensitivity for decision-making processes in a diversity of stakeholder environments in the international arena;
- Ability to provide advice to the Minister Prime Minister and work with other federal departments and agencies and provincial/territorial governments on securing foreign direct investment in Canada;
- Ability to set priorities and direct the corporate vision in order to fulfill the Hub’s mandate and attain its objectives;
- Ability to recognize and address emerging issues, to seize opportunities, and to advance ideas and innovation;
- Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with the Hub’s partners and stakeholders; and
- Superior communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to manage communications with a variety of stakeholders.
Language Requirements
Proficiency in both official languages is preferred.
