The overarching goal of the Minister of National Defence is to ensure that the Canadian Armed Forces are equipped and prepared, if called upon, to protect Canadian sovereignty, defend North America, provide disaster relief, conduct search and rescue, support United Nations peace operations, and contribute to the security of our allies and to allied and coalition operations abroad.
The Government of Canada is currently seeking applications from diverse and talented Canadians from across the country who are interested in the following positions:

Military Grievances External Review Committee
The Military Grievances External Review Committee is an independent administrative tribunal reporting to Parliament through the Minister of National Defence. It reviews all military grievances referred to it by the Chief of the Defence Staff.
The types of grievances referred to the Board involve administrative actions resulting in deductions from pay and allowances, reversion to a lower rank or release from the Canadian Armed Forces; application or interpretation of certain Canadian Armed Forces policies, including those relating to conflict of interest, harassment or racist conduct; pay, allowances and other financial benefits; and entitlement to medical care or dental treatment.
The full-time and the part-time members review military grievances referred to the Committee, and provide findings and recommendations to the Chief of the Defence Staff and the Canadian Armed Forces member who submitted the grievance.

Full-time Member salary range: $93,700 – $110,200 (GCQ-2)
Part-time Member per diem: $470 - $550 (GCQ-2)
Full-time Member Position Location: National Capital Region.
Part-time Member Position Location: Work from a remote location most of the time.

To be considered for one of these positions please provide examples from your career that clearly demonstrate how you meet the following requirements in your application:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree from a recognized university with acceptable specialization in business administration, public administration, administrative law, human resources management or in another acceptable field of study relevant to the position, or an acceptable combination of education, job related training and/or experience.
Minimum of three years of recent* professional experience in one or several of the following fields:
- Experience in the interpretation and application of legislation, regulations, policies or directives;
- Experience as a Board member or decision-maker in a quasi-judicial organization; and/or
- Experience in making findings and recommendations in a non-adjudicative organization;
- Experience working with the Canadian Armed Forces is an asset.
*Recent experience is defined as being within the last three (3) years
If you are selected for a written test and an interview, the following criteria will be assessed:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the role, mandate and responsibilities of the Military Grievances External Review Committee;
- Knowledge of the principles of procedural fairness;
- Knowledge of the National Defence Act and Chapter 7 of the Queen’s Regulations and Orders;
- Knowledge of the Canadian Armed Forces organization and structure;
- Ability to interpret relevant statutes, regulations, and policies and to analyze complex situations in order to make equitable and timely findings and recommendations;
- Ability to exercise independent and sound judgement while working alone or as part of a panel or team; and
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Language Requirements
Proficiency in both official languages would be preferred.

Eligibility Factors and Conditions of Employment
In your application, it will be important that you confirm you meet the following requirements:
- The successful full-time member candidate must be willing to relocate to the National Capital Region.
- The successful part-time member candidate must be able to work from a remote location most of the time.
