Clerk of the House of Commons (full-time position)
House of Commons
The House of Commons is the popularly elected component of Parliament, consisting of 338 members. The Clerk of the House of Commons contributes to the achievement of the parliamentary mission of the House of Commons and the enhancement of services to the House as an institution and to the members of Parliament in their work. The Clerk of the House of Commons is expected to direct the development of all administrative, logistical, and support functions necessary for the House to operate, which includes the provision of procedural services, legal and legislative services, information technology, Parliamentary Precinct Services, and Corporate Resources.

Salary Range: $196,600 - $231,200
Position Location: National Capital Region

Education and Experience
- A degree from a recognized university or a combination of equivalent education, job-related training and experience;
- Significant management experience at a senior level, including managing human and financial resources;
- Demonstrated decision-making experience with respect to sensitive issues; and
- Proven experience in developing and maintaining constructive and effective relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, including parliamentarians and policy makers at all levels.
If you are selected for an interview, the following criteria will be assessed:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of all aspects of the House of Commons legislative and accountability functions;
- Knowledge of sound management policies, practices and principles;
- Knowledge of the current political agenda, current legislative initiatives and current domestic issues;
- Knowledge of the legal, historical and cultural conditions of parliamentary institutions in Canada and abroad;
- Knowledge of and respect for bicameral systems of government;
- Commitment to, and proven track record of implementing decisions taken by others;
- Ability to establish and maintain the highest possible standard for procedural advice, and the provision of non-partisanship and political neutrality to all staff;
- Strong analytical and managerial skills and the ability to make impartial, fair and transparent decisions;
- Ability to respond to and reconcile tight deadlines and changing priorities and timetables; and
- Superior communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to manage communications with a variety of stakeholders.
Language Requirements
Proficiency in both official languages is essential.

- You reside in or are willing to relocate to the National Capital Region or to a location within a reasonable commuting distance.

You will be subject to the Conflict of Interest Act.
